Biden administration’s Methane Task Force is important step toward reducing methane emissions
Washington, D.C. – Today, the Biden administration announced the next step in its efforts to reduce emissions of methane with the creation of a Methane Task Force, a whole-of-government approach at the first-ever White House Methane Summit.
“Today’s announcement of the Methane Task Force is the culmination of years of hard work and represents an important step forward to achieve comprehensive methane reductions across the country while also driving reductions globally,” said Jonathan Banks, Global Director of Methane Pollution Prevention at Clean Air Task Force. “We must act swiftly to bend the climate change curve, and reducing methane emissions is the best action we can take to accomplish that. The Environmental Protection Agency must now finalize strong methane standards for the oil and gas sector and establish clear and effective rules to implement the Methane Emissions Reduction Program.”
CATF recently submitted comments to the Environmental Protection Agency to strengthen its proposed rule to reduce methane and other air pollution from oil and gas sources, including maintaining zero-emitting pneumatic controller requirements and frequent leak detection and repair (LDAR) inspections at all oil and gas facilities.
