CATF named most effective climate organization for the fifth year in a row
BOSTON — This Giving Tuesday, for the fifth year in a row, Clean Air Task Force (CATF) was rated by multiple external evaluators as one of the most effective organizations in the world working to address climate change.
Today, in recognition of Giving Tuesday, news outlet Vox issued its annual list of the most effective organizations working on climate change, once again rating Clean Air Task Force number one. Last month, Heatmap News also listed CATF as one of the top six climate organizations to support. This comes on the heels of both Giving Green and Founders Pledge repeatedly recognizing CATF as a highly effective climate charity — recommending the organization as one of the most effective organizations in the climate space to support in terms of donor impact.
These groups cited CATF for its effective policy design and advocacy in the U.S., Europe, Africa, and Middle East, its focus on innovation and technology optionality, and its willingness to look past traditional thinking and rigid ideology in the climate space.
Vox said: “In addition to its seriously impressive record of success and the high quality of its research, CATF does well on the neglectedness criterion: It often concentrates on targeting emissions sources that are neglected by other environmental organizations, and on scaling up deployment of technologies that are crucial for decarbonization, yet passed over by NGOs and governments. For example, it was one of the first major environmental groups to publicly campaign against overlooked super pollutants like methane.”
Founders Pledge said: “More recently, CATF has been expanding beyond the U.S. to operate in Africa, the Middle East, and elsewhere. This is crucial: About 35% of climate philanthropy goes to the U.S. and about 10% to Europe, which together represent only about 15% of future emissions, according to Founders Pledge. This is part of why Founders Pledge is supporting CATF’s efforts to globalize and recommends giving to that organization.”
Giving Green said: “We believe there is an opportunity to direct more capital to advocacy efforts to pass regulations on aviation and shipping emissions, as well as policies to support the development and scale of next-gen technologies and alternative fuels. Given the challenges of decarbonization, the lack of funding these subsectors of transport have received thus far, and the reluctance of the industries to make commitments voluntarily, this represents a high-impact philanthropic strategy with a need for funding. For this strategy, we recommend giving to the Clean Air Task Force for its work advancing zero-carbon fuels, and transportation decarbonization.”
“CATF is honored to receive this recognition from these highly credible external evaluators who conduct rigorous assessments, ask hard questions, and look for evidence of impact,” said CATF Executive Director Armond Cohen. “Amidst a changing political and commercial landscape, our flexible approach will allow us to continue catalyzing solutions, producing groundbreaking research, changing industry practices, designing and advocating for innovative policies, and mobilizing stakeholders to deliver real, lasting results. We’re proud that CATF continues to be recognized for helping to lead a paradigm shift within the climate arena, and we’re emboldened by our community of supporters that make our success possible.”
