CATF applauds U.S. bipartisan leadership to preserve and expand American nuclear energy capacity
WASHINGTON – With broad bipartisan support lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Atomic Energy Advancement Act, marking an important step toward securing new policies to further enable advanced nuclear deployment in the 118th Congress.
“Nuclear energy plays a critical role in decarbonization, particularly as global energy demand increases. Today’s passage of the Atomic Energy Advancement Act is a welcome sign of bipartisan interest in preserving existing nuclear capacity and in deploying advanced nuclear energy technologies in the U.S.,” says Evan Chapman, U.S. Federal Policy Director at Clean Air Task Force. “If signed into law, these bills would enable the U.S. to increase nuclear energy production, support energy security, and further the deployment of advanced reactors. We are encouraged by this bipartisan progress to support the deployment of advanced nuclear energy while bolstering U.S. leadership. CATF applauds Energy & Commerce Committee Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rogers and Ranking Member Frank Pallone, and Energy, Climate, and Grid Security Subcommittee Chairman Jeff Duncan and Ranking Member Dianna DeGette for their work on this bill, and we look forward to working with Congress to ensure that legislation to advance nuclear energy deployment, like the Atomic Energy Advancement Act, becomes law.”
