CATF elects first European board member

October 8, 2021

BRUSSELS — Clean Air Task Force is pleased to announce the election of Dr. Simone Tagliapietra to its Board of Directors.

Dr. Tagliapietra is a Senior Fellow at the leading Brussels based think tank, Bruegel. He is also an Adjunct professor of Energy, Climate and Environmental Policy at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and at The Johns Hopkins University – School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) Europe.

“Dr Tagliapietra is an influential scholar, analyst, and global authority on climate and energy in the European Union and around the world,” said Clean Air Task Force Executive Director Armond Cohen. “He has already played a key role advising our emerging EU work, and he will bring sage strategic advice to CATF as we deepen our work there and explore its connection to the rest of the world.”

Dr. Tagliapietra is the first European elected to the CATF Board, and his election tracks with the organization’s global expansion. After 25 years of climate leadership primarily in the U.S., CATF is now dedicated to a global vision of climate advocacy. It expanded its footprint in Europe and Africa in the past twelve months with 12 new hires dedicated to working in those regions.

“Since its first campaign against dirty coal production in 1996, CATF has substantially impacted the U.S. policy curse on key environmental and climate issues such as the reduction of emissions from super pollutants like methane, the reduction of carbon emissions from the electricity sector, and the regulation of diesel emissions,” said Mr Tagliapietra.

“I am proud to join CATF’s Board of Directors at a time of rapid expansion for the organization into Europe and Africa. The global race to net-zero requires a well-informed policy-making process, able to bring forward innovative solutions in a pragmatic manner. I am sure that, thanks to its science-based and technology-oriented approach, CATF will be able to positively contribute also to the policy dynamics of these two regions.”
