Clean Air Task Force (CATF) is a nonprofit organization working to safeguard against the worst impacts of climate change by catalyzing the rapid global development and deployment of low-carbon energy and other climate-protecting technologies. This is accomplished through research and analysis, public advocacy leadership, and partnership with the private sector. CATF is highly respected for its deep expertise and research on energy and industrial systems and potential strategies, technologies, and policies that can radically shrink their impact on the planet’s atmosphere. Our team of experts and advocates (and global network of subject matter experts and civil society partners) put this research and knowledge into action by designing and enacting public policies that drive toward zero emissions. We also support policies and work directly with private industry to innovate in technology to make the path to zero emissions swift and affordable. CATF has offices in Boston, Washington D.C., and Brussels, with staff working virtually around the world.

ROLE

We are seeking a service-oriented IT leader to lead and manage our organization’s IT function. In this role, they will lead the maintenance and enhancement of the organization’s IT environment/virtual office and will be responsible for managing and implementing solutions that enhance virtual collaboration and support knowledge management processes. The role will oversee CATF’s internal capacity to provide holistic IT support, including but not limited to the following: providing IT training and direct support for staff; managing our Microsoft 365 environment and other tools; establishing and ensuring best cybersecurity practices; supporting knowledge management processes; and partnering with the communication and marketing team to manage domain hosting and backend web development.

The successful candidate will have proven leadership and professional experience in IT administration and a detailed knowledge of industry best practices, with the ability to use their technical expertise and communication skills to enhance IT system efficiency across company structures.

Key Functions and Responsibilities:

Team Leadership

  • Lead the IT team in supporting CATF by assessing organizational needs, determining capacity requirements, and collaborating with key functions across the organization, including leadership, operations, programs, and HR

Development, implementation, and maintenance of IT infrastructure and processes

  • Oversee and maintain IT systems and virtual office infrastructure
  • Regularly assess, evaluate, and determine opportunities to improve and enhance our suite of communication and collaboration tools to better support the efficacy and efficiency of the organization
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance IT Department procedures to support the organization, including policies, guidelines, and best practices for software installation, onboarding, cybersecurity, system updates and patches, and change management
  • Oversee data administration, backup and security protocols, and oversee a business continuity/disaster recovery strategy for all applications and data
  • Select, upgrade, and configure new hardware and software to meet company objectives
  • Assist in development and support of domain hosting and web development

Vendor relations and procurement

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key IT vendors for the organization and manage equipment, software, and supply procurement in partnership with the finance team, while keeping appropriate records and carefully managing expenses
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external IT consulting firms
  • Manage software subscriptions and staff user accounts

Cybersecurity infrastructure strategy and maintenance

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for CATF’s cybersecurity infrastructure
  • Continuously review security protocols and procedures to mitigate potential threats
  • Ensure information security across all IT systems and mobile communications related activities

Oversight of direct staff IT support

  • Lead team and assist with providing internal IT support for staff that will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
    • Performing onboarding and offboarding tasks for employees in a timely manner
    • Providing, coordinating, and scheduling trainings for all staff in the use of technology
    • Educating staff about network security and best practices for computer usage
    • Enabling access to and use of key work optimization technologies such as audio and video conferencing systems and file sharing systems
    • Designing and implementing efficient end-user feedback and error reporting systems
    • Oversee day-to-day IT support for staff, including providing support as needed, for inquiries such as computer hardware/software, phishing emails, account access, and other technical needs

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, or related field preferred
  • 10+ years of information technology leadership experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of network technologies and administration, including cloud-based services, such as Microsoft 365, and audio/video conferencing tools
  • Experience with SharePoint, Salesforce, and Monday.com preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of PC and Mac hardware and operating systems
  • Strong understanding of system security and cybersecurity best practices
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and time management skills
  • Proven project management skills
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing IT infrastructure and demands within a remote work environment for a global organization preferred

Compensation and Location: 

This is a full-time, remote position flexible within the U.S. and able to work East Coast hours. CATF offers an excellent benefits package and an annual salary range of $155,000 – $175,000, depending on experience.
